«The pandemic decreased the immunity both of people and companies», - the head of the Zaporizhzhia regional council

Olena Zhuk, the head of the Zaporizhzhia regional council, mentioned the influence of the pandemic on the development of business in the region during the Ukrainian Women’s Congress’s Dialogue.

«We face 2 key issues: the pandemic that decreased the immunity level not only of people but of businesses and companies too, and the location of the Zaporizhzhia region near the frontline zone. But in this situation women play the role of mediators and protectors who can change history”, – says Olena ZHUK.

The head of the Zaporizhzhia regional council also paid additional attention to statistics. According to her, 1,7 million people live in the Zaporizhzhia region, and the current convocation of the regional council has 30% of women deputies.

«It is obvious that there should be more and more women in authorities and business, especially in top management. We have a well-developed retailing system and many other things we as Zaporizhzhia regional community can be proud of, and even though there are many women in these spheres, we are still on our way to gender equality», – she adds.

The Ukrainian Women’s Congress continued the series of regional events dedicated to the most urgent issues of economic recovery and overcoming the consequences of the global pandemic.

The representatives of local authorities, enterprises, and business associations gathered on the regional level to have a dialogue about economic challenges for women, equal and fair opportunities for women and men in business, and resource allocation, and possible ways for communities’ recovery after the pandemic.

Considering the results of the event in Zaporizhzhia, the Ukrainian Women’s Congress is going to prepare a practical guide for the realistic steps to be made on the local level to support effective economic recovery. Congress will send these recommendations to the government and other authorities and inform society about the Dialogue results.

The next regional Dialogue is planned to take place in Ivano-Frankivsk this autumn.
