Iryna Gerashchenko is a co-Head of the European Solidarity faction in the Ukrainian Parliament and a member of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation.
Mrs. Gerashchenko became a Member of the Parliament of Ukraine for the first time in 2007, reelected for further terms later. She started working in journalism in 1993. From 2005 – 2006 she worked as a press secretary for one of the Presidents of Ukraine.
Mrs. Gerashchenko was the first woman in the history of the country to hold the position of the First Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. From 2014-2016 she headed the Committee on European Integration of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
From June, 2014 till May, 2019 Mrs. Gerashchenko worked as President’s Commissioner for peaceful settlement of the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In May 2015 Mrs. Gerashchenko served as the Representative of Ukraine in the Humanitarian Sub-group of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk. Due to the activities of the Sub-group and under the auspices of I. Gerashchenko hundreds of Ukrainian hostages were released.
I. Gerashchenko visited Donbas more than 100 times and worked to promote a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the East of Ukraine and counteraction to the Russian aggression. With her initiative and co-sponsorship such Laws as On Status of Internally Displaced Persons, On the Legal Status of Missing Persons, On Mine Action in Ukraine were adopted.
In 2011 І. Gerashchenko became a co-founder of the Equal Opportunities Inter-Faction Union. In 2019 she became one of the initiators of the Security. Women. Peace Platform, with the aim to involve women into the peacekeeping process. І. Gerashchenko participated twice in the UN Security Council Open Debates on Women, Peace and Security.
Mrs. Gerashchenko Honours and Awards: the Order of Princess Olga, 3rd class, 2017 Global Trailblazer Award for peacekeeping efforts, Honored Journalist of Ukraine.
Education: Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University (Journalism, Law) and the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the MFA (Foreign Policy).
